Kind-hearted pupils fare helping to spread cheer among the city’s homeless community this festive season.
Hundreds of pupils at the school have been busy filling boxes with comfort items as part of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford’s ‘In The Box’ campaign.
Last year, the footballer, together with his family, helped to deliver comfort boxes to Manchester’s homeless. This year, he hopes the campaign will have even greater impact after he called for members of the public to join the appeal.
Footballer, Marcus Rashford, said:
“I’m extremely proud of where I’m from, I love this city and appreciate all of the support the city has given me over the years. So this is my opportunity to help out those that might not otherwise have the best Christmas. I’m hoping lots of people will want to get involved too so we can make a real impact together.”
The school’s charitable work forms part of its annual Festive Winter Gift Programme, which takes place across all 28 schools that are part of the multi-academy trust, Star Academies.
Raees Afzal, Vice Principal at Eden Boys’ School, Manchester, said:
“We are so very proud of the way our pupils have embraced this campaign. They have all worked very hard to try to make a difference to some of Manchester’s most vulnerable communities. Charitable work within our local community is a very large part of our school’s ethos and will always try to make a difference to those in need.”
Mufti Hamid Patel CBE, Chief Executive of Star Academies, said:
“At Star Academies, we are committed to nurturing our pupils to develop a genuine desire to support those less fortunate than themselves. The festive season is one of the times in our school calendar when we step up our efforts to offer a helping hand to those in need. Once again this year, it is extremely heartening to see our pupils, parents and staff embrace our Winter Gift Programme by reaching out into their communities to put smiles on the faces of the most vulnerable. Together, we want to ensure that no one in our community is without company, a card or gift at the time of year when our country is celebrating a national holiday.”
